let me detail the best way to piss off everyone that works with you. it’s short, it’s simple. it sounds cliche.

the best way to infuriate people like me is to not communicate. really. being selfish and not communicating with the people who share (and RELY upon) your workspace, in my world, gets you on everyone’s shit list in a real hurry. even if you’re a very nice person in every other regard.

i’m in preparation for my next big experiment. for weeks in advance, i asked people if they had anything big planned during the time i would be using the facility in question. weeks! then i asked again before i ordered everything- just a quick, “hey, got any big plans in the facility starting next week through x day?” everyone said no, thanks for looking ahead, go for it.

so imagine my shock and fury when i walk into the facility i will need for the next 10 work days and find it full to 80% of capacity! what the fuck happened here?

some inconsiderate part-time (ie undergrad) community member placed an order for 80% of the capacity of the room with NO regard for whether anyone else would be needing it for the next several weeks. i don’t have several fucking weeks to twiddle my thumbs and stew in my own anger over this. i have things that need to get done because i’m on a schedule here, and goddamnit nobody is going to stand in my way!

i improvised out of sheer desperation and panic and wanting to kill people, and put up a note declaring a slow painful death for anyone who took my newly made space. this experiment is getting done, and if i have to step on some toes so be it. that was inconsiderate and rude and deserved a lot more of a backlash than it got from me.

so to all of you reading tonight… if you’re going to be a resource hog, COMMUNICATE with your peers! don’t be like this person.
